The countdown begins as we gear up for PrEP Aware Week 2024, a vibrant celebration of health, empowerment, and inclusivity!
The New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute is thrilled to unveil this year's theme: "PrEP for All Ages." This initiative shines a light on the importance of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) as a preventive measure against HIV, embracing everyone—no matter their age or stage in life.
"PrEP for All Ages" encourages individuals to take charge of their health, whether you're embarking on new adventures, deepening connections, or exploring your sexuality. PrEP is here to support you through every chapter, ensuring safety and pleasure go hand in hand. This year, we're driven by a mission to make sexual health conversations positive, inclusive, and free from stigma.
Meet our dynamic ambassadors leading the charge:
Jewel Rouge and Sherrod Williamson.
Jewel, a proud New Yorker and combat veteran from the Bronx, brings her passion for art and advocacy to the forefront. She champions the accessibility of PrEP for cis-gendered women, breaking down barriers and taboos around sexual health. Her personal journey with PrEP is an inspiring testament to embracing sexuality with confidence and pride.
Sherrod Williamson, a charismatic social media influencer, blends humor with crucial health insights to captivate his audience. With a strong background in clinical studies and social work, Sherrod uses his platform to spread awareness about health and wellness. His engaging content for the HEAT Program has been a cornerstone in promoting PrEP and fostering a supportive community online.
So, what exactly is PrEP Aware Week?
It's a vital public health campaign dedicated to promoting PrEP as an effective HIV prevention method. Scheduled for October 21-27, this week is packed with engaging activities, both online and offline, aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of PrEP among priority populations.
Brooklyn is PrEP’d!, a collaborative endeavor by the HEAT Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and The PATH Center at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, plays a crucial role in this initiative. Since 2016, these centers have been committed to making PrEP services accessible across Brooklyn and beyond, ensuring comprehensive care for all.
Our bi-annual Brooklyn is PrEP’d! Network Meetings bring together the community and PrEP providers to exchange insights and strategies for overcoming barriers to PrEP access. As we move forward, we invite you to join us in our mission to ensure Brooklyn remains a beacon of health, safety, and empowerment.
Get ready for an inspiring PrEP Aware Week 2024 as we celebrate "PrEP for All Ages" with openness, positivity, and an unwavering commitment to sexual health.
